Welcome, Dear Guests!

We welcome you to Bakar, one of the oldest towns on the Northern Adriatic with a long and rich history. Bakar is a place where the Mediterranean Sea penetrated most deeply into the European land and shaped one of the most protected bays on the eastern (Croatian) coast of the Adriatic Sea, which some call a fjord.

In the north-western corner of this magnificent bay, the town of Bakar has spread its wings, positioned amphitheatrically on a hill above the sea. On account of its expressive picturesqueness, this centuries-old town is called Bethlehem of Croatia.

The area of the town of Bakar was peopled as early as in the 3rd and the 2nd millennium before Christ. The Roman Empire and Croatian noble families of Frangipanes and Zrinski have left profound imprints. The empress Maria Theresa gave to Bakar the status of a free town. Its narrow streets and squares will tell you a fascinating story about the history gone with the wind. Looking at the sea, you will picture onetime peoples sailing and trading here, Illyrians, Celts, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Croats who came here and settled down in the 7th century.

Do not wait any longer, visit Bakar and ennoble yourself by discovering the history and heritage of our town and its surroundings.

We hope that you will enjoy your stay!
