GALERIE “BISKUPIJA”
The house “Diocese” was built within defensive walls of the town of Bakar. It is located on the Plačica square, the largest open space within the structure of the Upper Town (Gornji Grad). The “Diocese” house was the residence of many well-known bishops, the most famous being bishop Modruški. Let us mention only some of the bishops who are known to have lived in the “Diocese”: Andrija (Andrew) Francisci Bakaranin (1647-1650), Ivan (John) Smoljanović Bakaranin (1667-1677) and Juraj (George) Vuk baron Ćolić (1746-1764), whose coat of arms is still above the entrance door of the house. The open studio (atelier) of the same name “Diocese” will have the permanent sales exhibition of unique artwork made by Mrs. Branka Ris, as well as the artwork of other guest artists. Gallery is open for visitors by appointment.
